How We're Surviving COVID-19 ... Naturally

Hey Fam.

How are you holding up in this crazy quarantined world? It’s been a while since our last post - our family has been through so much turmoil and transformation. A lot like yours, I’m sure.

We’ve encountered death in many forms, from loved ones passing away to deaths of friendships, home, and even the self in many ways. It’s a time of metamorphosis on the planet and we’re accepting the change with gratitude, thankful for the promise of growth and new life.

With all this quarantine in place, I’ll admit it hasn’t seemed to touch the homestead much. Days here are very much the same; woodsmoke lazily rises from the chimney to perfume the house and yard, laundry billows on the line, the rooster crows, plants are reaching through soil, children play in the dirt…and mama is here wiping noses, feeding mouths, and keeping everything alive & healthy. Ha!

We don’t need to buy much food from the store, and good thing - I’ve been shocked to see barren store shelves, and our hometown has recently put restrictions on essential grocery stores.

Luckily, we’ve been growing and storing food goods and making most of our household cleaners and body products. I’ve whipped up some extra germ-busting natural sanitizers and sprays in honor of COVID-19, so I’m here to share them.

First on the list is well known and a personal favorite: Thieves Oil!

For my easy peasy Thieves Oil recipe, click here, or you can purchase my favorite brand of pre-blended Thieves Oil from Amazon.

You can really use Thieves Oil in so much...I put it in hand soap, sprayable hand sanitizer, surface cleaners, floor cleaner, the diffuser, body soaps, even in homemade toothpastes and mouthwash. You can also dilute in a carrier oil and rub on bottoms of feed and spine to boost immunity, press a drop of the dilution to the roof of the mouth to combat headaches, and even rub on gums to relieve tooth pain.

To combat the Corona Virus, two recipes have become a staple; a multipurpose Air & Surface Spray, and a moisturizing Hand Sanitizer Spray. We spritz ourselves with the Air & Surface Spray as soon as we step in the door, and all over places that get touched by hands throughout the day, like the couch, tables, counters, door knobs, light switches, and favorite toys. I add more anti-microbial oils than just Thieves, so I call it “Thieves ++ Air & Surface Spray”

Thieves ++ Surface Spray Recipe

You will need:

  • Glass spray bottle (try to go for a dark glass; these strong oils can eat away at plastic, and dark glass will prevent the oils from breaking down)

  • 1/2 cup Vodka or rubbing alcohol

  • 20 drops Thieves Oil

  • 5 drops Tea Tree essential oil

  • 5 drops Camphor essential oil

  • 5 drops Thyme essential oil

  • Distilled water to fill

Directions:

  • Add alcohol to bottle

  • Add oils

  • Fill to top with distilled water

  • Shake before each use

BAM! You have a powerful germ busting spray, my friend. Spritz on fabrics, surfaces, car interiors, and anything that gets touched a lot.

Thieves ++ Moisturizing Hand Sanitizing Spray

You will need:

  • Glass pump spray bottle

  • 3 tbs Vodka or rubbing alcohol

  • 1 tsp fractionated (liquid) coconut oil

  • Squirt of vegetable glycerin (for emulsifier)

  • 10 drops Thieves oil

  • 4 drops Tea Tree essential oil

  • 2 drops Camphor essential oil

  • 2 drops Thyme essential oil

  • Distilled water to fill

Directions:

  • Add alcohol to bottle

  • Add coconut oil & vegetable glycerin

  • Add essential oils

  • Fill to top with distilled water

  • Shake well before each use

You can add or subtract the amounts of essential oils to your hearts desire and it will still be effective, these are just the recipes I’ve concocted and like to use personally. Enjoy!

Some other ways we’re protecting & boosting our immune systems:

  • My homemade, homegrown, organic ImmuniTea blend that will be available for purchase soon in my apothecary shop, containing herbs like echinacea, goldenseal, thyme, oregano, & many others.

  • Ingesting echinacea root paired with goldenseal in capsule form, known for immune system support

  • Eating plenty of citrus; oranges, clementines, & lemons

  • Elderberry syrup with honey

  • Immune boosting mushroom powders like red reishi & chaga

  • Diffusing Thieves Oil in the home

  • Staying hydrated

  • Getting plenty of sleep

  • Social distancing

Blessings to you during this difficult time. May health and wellness be yours, and may we come out of this mess a more unified, global community.

Thank you for reading!

Peace & harmony,
